Day 24 – Ponferrada to Trabadelo

I didn’t sleep so well last night and this morning I still felt tired from the previous day's long walk. I struggled all day with the 32km walk although it was relatively flat. I am considering not walking onto Finisterre as I hoped to do, just ending at Santiago. We shall see. I would like to finish this walk as I set out to do, and then I will see how I feel.

I was out the door of the albergue by 6am. As I was navigating my way out of the city, I dropped my glasses (in their case) and imediately stepped on them! Fortunately, I have now managed to bend the case back into shape and fortunately, the glasses were not broken. Not a good start to the day. I also didn't know it then, but I had left my soap at the albergue, which I hope to replace tomorrow. I kept walking, with short breaks to eat what food I had with me.

By 11am I made it to the town of Villafranca del Bierzo. It is a beautiful town with lots of huge churches. I think it must have been an important town historically.

I wandered through, looking for a shop. Then I saw the 3 amigos! I couldn’t believe it again! What are the chances that I should meet them just like that? They were about to leave too, so I could easily have missed them.

They were planning to stay in the same village as me, so we walked together the rest of the afternoon until we reached Trabadelo. I said goodbye to them at their hotel and hope to meet them again in the coming days.

  2. Things could be worse, the chap next to you is doing it all with one arm. He has a great hat however.

    1. Thanks Shirley. It is amazing how far I have come over a few weeks. I dare say for the original Peregrinos, it would have been a lot more difficult; rough terrain, no sat-nav and bandits out to rob them.
I've got to say, I have felt very safe the whole journey.
