Day 6 - Puente la Reina to Azqueta

Day 6 - Puente la Reina to Azqueta

It seemed an even darker start this morning, as I was soon out of the town and onto a track. I was pleased to see at last, that the sky was brightening and I could see where I was walking and starting to see the colours and shade in the landscape. I reflected that I was enjoying seeing the sun come up each morning; not just seeing it for a few minutes but seeing it from completely dark to seeing the full sun in the sky. It’s so lovely to see this day after day, just walking and seeing it all happen. Having said that, I may need to use my head torch on some mornings depending on the terrain. I think we get breakfast tomorrow, and an evening meal tonight. Happy days!

Today felt like quite a long walk through the villages of  Maneru, Cirauqui, Lorca, Villatuerta, Estella an onto Azqueta. The scenery was stunning with fantastic vistas and really well kept, small villages.

I think the top photo was from Lorca. The third photo down is the beautiful village of Cirauqui, with narrow cobbled alleys and winding streets.

There were also fantastic views of the range of Cantabrian Mountains, to the north of us.  I think my colleague Jon is there at the moment, preparing for an expedition.

Towards the end of the day I came upon the quite famous Fuente del vino, where a wine factory has a font that produces red wine. As much as you want. I was happy to just put a little in my bottle that I enjoyed with my late lunch. I don’t think it would win any awards but it was quite drinkable.

And due to great demand, here is yesterday’s photo of the octagonal church (that I was unable to see close up).

And today, I passed the first 100km sign. Just 678km to go

    1. Yes, but it's also very true of the Camino. A lot of things seem very diferent if you are a pligrim. Lots of people passing will say Buen Camino.

    1. Yes the glue on the shoes is holding out surprisingly well at the moment. That said, I could imagine them failing before too long. If they do, I'll wait to I get to another city to buy for new shoes.

    1. Thanks Pete. I seem to be getting into a pattern now which make it easier to manage. I love the walking for hours, as you said, just seeing the sceenery change and the birds, small lizards all add together to make it interesting.
