Day 4 Larrasoana to Pamplona
I think we all had to be out of the albergue by 8am which is
quite late, normaly it is 7:30. I was feeling really pleased with my feet and
legs which are the parts that get the most punishment from spending 4-6 hours
on the trail. No blisters on my feet and my knees are fine too! I had another migraine in
the night but the Zomig tablet was already sorting it out. I had hoped I would
be a bit free of them on this Camino but I am now dreading having to walk with one.
Today’s walk was only 15km to Pamplona which was a lovely
walk, again through woodlands and scrubby bush. Puddles from last nights rain had
pooled on some parts of the footpath and I was grateful that it had stopped
raining some hours earlier. But the footpath was very slippery in parts and on a particulary steep section, I slipped and only just managed to regain my footing.
Pamploma is the city where some of the younger men are chased
by bulls through the streets in their festival week. I don’t know if they do
this in the old city but the streets are quite narrow with not many places to
hide.
To be honest I’m not really into towns and cities but I did
enjoy looking around the impressive battlements.
I also looked around the catholic cathedral too (3 euros). I
was impressed with the architecture but the rest of the bling left me cold.
I have just got back to the albergue and met the US army/navy
chaplains and submariner that I met on my first night at Orisson. I also am
bunked near Shu (a Chinese lady who has been working in the uk as an
interpreter for some years) who I met in Orisson. I think I am starting to see
how you can build friendships as everyone moves along the Camino at a different
pace but still meet up at the main albergues. Hopefully I will be going out to
dinner with Bob and his brothers in arms.
Sounds like you were right about meeting some lovely interesting people en route. Did the American guys talk about 9/11 at all? We’ve been watching the National Geographic documentary that’s been on this week with all sorts of different people who were caught up in it sharing their memories. Very moving.
ReplyDeleteThey only spoke quite briefly about 911 and very little about their experiences. I felt it would be prying to ask for more details. Lovely guys thought.
DeletePS. Just a bit ahead of you on my virtual walk, just past Lorca. If you go through there tomorrow, can you post a photo? xx
